Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy

Star Icon

The 70s were tragic enough without inflicting Ron Burgundy on the poor decade. I am not a fan of Will Ferrell. His work tends to be so ridiculous, slap stick, incredibly crude and cringe-worthy that it is just not enjoyable and this movie is a classic example. I’ll admit there are some bits that are really funny, such as the news crew street fight where Ben Stiller steals the show, but they are few and far between. Most of it is just awkward with way too many ewwww moments and a plethora of gratuitous sexual innuendos. Pretty much what you expect from Saturday Night Live alums: patches of funny stuff interspersed between miles of disgusting, juvenile and painful attempts at “humor”. The only bright spot is some truly stellar examples of that strange and rare creature, actually attractive 70s fashion, which is mostly shown on Christina Applegate’s character. Wardrobe, hair and makeup really outdid themselves, but just window dressing isn’t enough to make this into a decent movie. I really wish I’d listened to my gut and skipped this abomination but I tried to be open-minded and gave it a chance. Don’t make my mistake! – BETHANY

The one good scene in the whole movie.
